AI Methods Lab

Welcome to UMC Utrecht’s AI Methods lab, driving methodological innovations for AI development and implementation in medicine. We focus on research questions in AI, collaborate with experts, provide guidance to developers and end-users, and support other UMC Utrecht AI labs. Together, we advance responsible healthcare utilization.

About AI methods lab

The mission of the UMC Utrecht lab for AI Methods is to become a recognized community for collaboration on methodological innovations for AI development and implementation. The rapid increase of AI applications in medicine calls for robust solutions to ensure AI can be used both effectively and safely. To this end, we focus on fundamental research questions in the AI domain, ranging from statistical, research design and modelling issues to ethical, legal and societal aspects. The ultimate aim is to test and apply novel methods in clinically relevant use cases.

Collaboration

The AI Methods lab will foster close collaborations between clinicians, data scientists, statisticians, epidemiologists, ethicists, implementation specialists and other stakeholders with expertise on AI methodology. Through teamwork we will be able to provide the most relevant methods guidance to both AI developers and end-users, contribute to state-of-the art AI education, and initiate cutting-edge AI methods research. The lab will also play an essential role in the success of the other UMC Utrecht AI labs by providing methods expertise through consultation and collaboration.
